Cheap is, of course, relative, but with media calling 250 EUR for a chunk of toxic plastic 'cheap' these days, this is decent.
69 EUR right now
- Name: 'Doogee S88 Pro'
- Price chart: https://up.chip.icu/f.php?h=3kJDznjxnG&p=1
Seller sells it cheap because of 'software defects'. Reset it yourself 🙂.
- cheaper than most legit usable 2nd hand
- a not completely outdated Android, so you can install foobar2000
- huge 128G storage
- looks somewhat sturdy
- most definitely no custom ROMs, forget about that
- guaranteed spyware and bloat, but for offline/emulated landline use irrelevant
Definitely keep it offline. A stock bloat ROM is hard to trust, so I'd really make sure offline is provably offline.
Good enough to use as a phone when forced + MP3 player. Keep it away from the internet and use the 'airplane mode'.
Hugely cheaper than the expensive hipster-trend trash that made the new 'dumbphones' a real dumb choice.
Usual disclaimer: 'airplane mode' doesn't have to mean anything on these, you might want to wrap it in an anti-EMF pouch while moving. Even just something DIY that you tested works.
I don't need it as my 7 year old one decided to work again. Somewhat. Maybe someone else needs it. We should consider sharing things like this more often. Many people are forced to have a phone even just to receive SMS from their stupid forced bank verification etc. The 'dumbphones' that are marketed now are typically a lot more expensive than some random trash Androids. Especially considering most can't be used as an MP3 player, which I personally must have to survive the city.
Regular 2nd hand markets would be even better, of course, but I found them extremely overpriced and unfortunately full of scams. There's usually some catch to the cheap 20-30 EUR offers.
